Altherm teams up with Josh Coppins to take motocross coaching to the next level

Motocross-mad juniors can win a once-in-a-lifetime spot at an Altherm JCR Motocross Masterclass where they’ll train with the best in the business.

Altherm Window Systems has teamed up with former World Motocross Championship’s No.2 Josh Coppins for the third consecutive year, to give 24 lucky Kiwi kids the opportunity to experience what it’s like to be a ‘factory rider’ for a day.

This epic competition is open to all keen motocross riders aged from 6 to 12-years-old. There are 12 places available at each of the two Altherm JCR Motocross Masterclass destinations in Christchurch (May 1) Christchurch and Waikato (May 15).

Split into two age groups – with one session in the morning and another in the afternoon – riders will meet the Altherm JCR Yamaha team at a fully groomed and prepared track. Once they are in their gear and ready to go, they will be welcomed by Coppins and given an outline on how the coaching session will proceed. Riders will then do a couple of warm up laps before they gather on the side of the track as a group and the masterclass commences.

All participants are given an Altherm JCR Motocross Masterclass goodie bag which contains a personalised bike stand, Altherm cap, Altherm JCR Yamaha t-shirt, Altherm lollies, a personalised booklet, water and Altherm stickers.

Coppins appreciates the support of Altherm Window Systems for this initiative.

“Our motocross team JCR Yamaha is fortunate to have generous partners like Altherm, who recognise the importance of giving back to the community. This masterclass initiative has been highly successful, and I genuinely enjoy working with the kids,” Coppins says.

“This is the third season we have run this joint initiative. We take the kids through a coaching experience that gives them the feeling of what it’s like to be a factory rider for the day. We have our Yamaha event truck set up on-site and the kids’ goodie bags include a factory stand, all sign-written up and named for them to put their bikes on.

“We take them through the coaching process for the day – with six riders in the morning and six in the afternoon – and aim to improve their fundamental riding skills. Our Yamaha motocross stars come along to assist me and in Hamilton we have our MX1 rider Kayne Lamont on-board. The Christchurch rider is still to be confirmed.”

The Altherm JCR Motocross Masterclass initiative is one of multiple interactions the two brands have planned for 2021. They will also give away a Yamaha PW50 and continue with the popular school visits.

“We’ve been all over the country with the masterclasses, visiting Taupo, Auckland, Whangarei and Palmerston North. This will be our second trip to Christchurch but the first time heading to the Waikato and I’m looking forward to meeting the motocross mad kids from both regions,” Coppins concludes.

Entries close at 12pm on 22nd February 2021. T&Cs apply. Participants must provide their own motocross bike and equipment. Please clink on this link to enter.

Feedback from past winners’ parents:

“Lane wouldn’t stop talking about how well his riding was going and the fact he never crashed. He also loved his photo with Josh and his goodie bag and talked about the training session the whole way home. I was also very impressed and grateful for the goodie bag and stand the boys received thank you very much. The boys are looking forward to heading out riding and practising the things Josh went over with them. It has even got them excited again for MX considering the lack of events this year.” – Moana, Palmerston North.

“We just wanted to take a minute to thank you so much, on behalf of Isla, for the amazing opportunity to be a part of the Altherm Motocross Masterclass. The event was run incredibly well, and Isla left it feeling like a superstar. It’s the experiences like these that we, as a family, feel build confidence and passion in the sport and it was such an exciting experience for Isla to be a part of.” – Elly, Palmerston North.

“Very, very belated email!!! But just wanted to thank Altherm Window Systems and JCR for the awesome experience our son Nick had in Invercargill in November. He has enjoyed practicing what he learnt that day and came away with a lot of learning! Thanks so much for this event, and awesome opportunity!” – Janelle, Invercargill.
