Hawkes Bay 6 Hour Action

The 19th running of the Hawkes Bay Suzuki 6 Hour looked to be a 'down-to-the-wire' spectacular! But not everything is always as it seems...

From the gun, it was the usual sprint down the airstrip, round a barrel and back up again before diving into the bush and tackling the 35km, 45 minute loop. Scoring a top 5 start, the Yamaha team of Rory Mead and Adrian Smith emerged first from the forest, followed closely by the new Honda Off-Road team of Karl Power and our very own Ed Chris Power.

Karl Power in his first race back from the USA and on the new Honda Team.

These two teams proved to be a mountain above the rest as they both laid down lap times up to 5 minutes quicker than some of those in the top five places. By lap 3, the two Enduro teams had stretched their lead out to over 10 minutes, effectively making the event a two-horse race.

Rory Mead lead the first lap, 40 seconds ahead of the Power boys.

Bad luck then struck the Yamaha team as an apparent blown clutch ended their race. this left the Honda Mounted Power combo to easily take the checkers by over 15 minutes from the next best team - the KMP/Metalman riders Luke Ramsey and Mason Phillips.

Chris Finished his stint as Karl mounts for another lap.

A full Report will be in the next issue of DRD Magazine (November issue) available in stores from around the 25th of October.
