Team Suzuki will be fist pumping all the way home after the Washougal round of the Lucas Oils, AMA Motocross Championship. It went all Roackstar Makita Suzuki's way at Washougal as Chad Reed and Ryan Dungy took the overall in both the 450cc and the 250cc classes, while the head honcho from Suzuki Japan was watching on.
250cc Class
In race one, Dungy got a great start and quickly moved his way to the front of the pack and was never challenged as he took the first moto win. His championship rival, Christophe Pourcel made a hash of the start and could only manage to make it back to eighth place by the end of the moto.
Moto two saw Pourcel make up for his first race blues as he almost got the holeshot and was in front by the fourth corner. He then checked out to take the second moto win, good enough for third overall for the day. Dungy didn't get the best of starts and looked to be struggling early on in the moto. At about half way through he picked up the pace and started picking off riders. His fifth place finish was good enough to take the overall with his 1-5, leaving him and Pourcel tied on points going into the next round.
Motocross 250 - Washougal Results
1. Ryan Dungey (Suzuki RM Z250), 1-5
2. Blake Wharton (Honda CRF250R), 3-3
3. Christophe Pourcel (Kawasaki KX 250F), 8-1
450cc Class
Having had the leading Red Plate for a few weeks now, Chad Reed looked comfortable as the AMA points leader - and after this weekends efforts, nothing looks like it will be changing any time soon.
Moto One saw Reed get a great start and led pretty much start to finish in an impressive display of skill and determination. Thomas Hahn, the Kawasaki rider was the only one who even came close to Reed and as the moto winded down, Reed seemed to back off the pace a little, perhaps saving himself for the second moto.
Moto Two started in a different way as Yamaha's Josh Grant got a great start and proceeded to pull away from the rest of the field. He managed to lead the race for the first 13 laps before a charging Reed finally ran him down and made the pass stick. Surprise rider Jason Lawrence got a stellar start and held onto third for the moto, eventually ending on the podium overall with a 10-3 result. But it was Reed showing impressive speed as Grant has, in previous races, easily managed to hold off Reed - it was just the Suzuki mans day and he stretches out his points lead over the following pack by 65 points.
