Broken Leg Spells Disaster for

Villopoto and Kawasaki!

Ryan Villopoto's horrible crash during the St. Louis Supercross main event last Saturday evening resulted in a badly broken right leg. How bad? It will likely take two surgeries to correct, according to Kawasaki's press release below. Villopoto has already completed one surgery on the leg.

Irvine, Calif. - Monster Energy Kawasaki's Ryan Villopoto is recovering after successful surgery to 'set and stabilise' his broken right leg. He will likely need an additional surgery when the swelling subsides. The unfortunate injury occurred when Villopoto crashed while leading the St. Louis supercross event.

"This is heartbreaking for both Ryan and the team," said Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Manager Mike Fisher. "RV was going for the championship and riding really well. It's a shame this happened because Ryan has shown so much resilience this season while trying to attain his first supercross championship. I know Ryan will do everything he can to get back as soon as possible."

Villopoto will remain in the hospital in St. Louis until he is able to travel back to California. He wants to thank all his fans for their thoughts, prayers, and support during this tough time.

This is a terrible turn of events for the boys in green, but Ryan Dungey and his Suzuki team will be putting their champagne on ice now that their closest competitor is out of contention.
