2010 Honda International
Motocross NZ Grand Prix
The 2010 Honda International New Zealand Motocross Grand
Prix is heading this way from the 29-31 January 2010. Manawatu-Orion Motorcycle
Club President, Bryan Davidson, has announced the longstanding partnership
between Blue Wing Honda and the Club is to continue for 2010 with Honda once
again as principal Sponsor. The NZ Motocross Grand Prix, widely known as
“Woodville” attracts NZ’s top MXers from Minis through to Seniors. A Grand Prix
class win carries with it a NZ title. This is the only event in NZ Motocross
that holds the Grand Prix title.
International riding sensation Kiwi Ben Townley makes
his first appearance at Woodville for some years, Australians Jay Wilson,
currently FIM World 85cc #1 & Tye Simmonds,currently FIM World 125cc
#2, Honda Racing riders Michael
Phillips, Justin McDonald, Peter Broxholme and Cameron Dillon, Suzuki’s Cody
Cooper and Scott Columb, plus the Subway Yamaha , Kawasaki, & KTM teams
will all provide the heat on the track.
The Tararua township of Woodville has become
synonymous with this event, and the January 2010 event will be the 49th
Annual MX event, all shaping into an exciting 2011 when not only will the 50th
Woodville be run but also the Manawatu-Orion Motorcycle Club will celebrate its
Centenary.
For South Islanders it appears that Ferry bookings are
exceptionally heavy in the days prior to Woodville, and the Club is looking
into alternative arrangements if possible for the mainlanders. Any progress will
be posted on the Club’s website www.momcc.co.nz
As the entries begin to roll in the Club is working
hard on the preparations for the January 2010 event. Anticipating rider entries
in excess of 600, and crowd estimated over the duration of the event in the
region of 6500, the future shines brightly for Woodville 2010 - January 29th
-31st.
